Our Story

Canvas-branch was established in 2014 by a collective of working cinematographers who recognised a gap in practical, industry-relevant camera training within Australia. Traditional film schools offered theoretical knowledge, but many graduates entered the workforce without the hands-on experience needed to operate professional equipment confidently.

We built our curriculum around real-world production scenarios. Every exercise mirrors actual job requirements, from corporate video shoots to feature film setups. Our approach has since become a model for vocational film training, blending technical precision with creative development.

Today, our graduates work across broadcast television, streaming productions, documentary projects, and commercial advertising throughout Australia and internationally.

Our Teaching Philosophy

Technical mastery alone does not create compelling cinema. We teach camera operation as an extension of storytelling, where every frame serves the narrative. Our instructors emphasise the relationship between camera movement, light, and emotional impact.
